WILLOW SMITH HAS BEEN NAMED THE NEW FACE OF CHANEL!

image

Fifteen year-old daughter of Will and Jada, Willow can now add Couture Muse to her resume. Willow was spotted front row with her mother at the recent Chanel runway show and set social media on fire.

Her officially being named the new “face” of Chanel comes mere weeks after brother Jaden scored an ad campaign with Louis Vuitton. Looks like the Couture Gods love them some Smith children. Girl… can you hook our LSDivas up with a little sweater or something?

LSDivas PRESENTS TRACEY ‘AFRICA’ NORMAN FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

image

Long before Caitlyn Jenner shocked the world when she transitioned from male, Olympic superstar; and before Laverne Cox began giving groundbreaking performances on Orange Is The New Black, Tracey ‘Africa’ Norman was the first Transgender model to be featured in major magazines and score lucrative product endorsements.

In the 1970s, Newark, New Jersey native, Tracey Norman quietly began transitioning after high school. As part of her “training” on becoming more feminine, Norman would pose as a fashion student and sneak into modelling casting calls to watch black models walk and copy their mannerisms. One day, she followed a group of black models into a building in what turned out to be a casting call for Italian Vogue.

Photographer, Irving Penn was ecstatic that he had just discovered the next Beverly Johnson. Tracey ended up working in Italy and Europe for years and even scored major product endorsement deals with Clairol and Ultra Sheen makeup. It wasn’t until many years later that the industry ‘caught on’ and her modelling career abruptly ended. But still stunning in her 60s, Tracey Norman paved the way for Trans women working in film, television and fashion today… Even if they never knew it!

LSDivas PRESENTS JADEN SMITH FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

image

Some may question our decision to recognize someone so young as being influential during Black History Month. But considering Jaden Smith is the first Black man to ever be featured in a major fashion house’s women’s Ready-To-Wear campaign, we find it difficult not see it as groundbreaking.

Last year saw the celebration of all things LGBT in the form of Laverne Cox continually being revered for her work on ‘Orange Is The New Black’ and the media firestorm that is Caitlyn Jenner. But when Louis Vuitton cast Will and Jada’s son in a campaign where he donned the houses über expensive luxury clothing, many in the black community had something to say; and very little of it was positive.

We, on the other hand, applaud both Jaden and Vuitton for having the courage to challenge the notion of what is acceptable with regard to gender roles in today’s society. Jaden, love him or leave him, represents a segment of his generation that cares little about the rules society has long placed as what is or isn’t appropriate attire for men or women. And we love that about him! Oh, and that outfit is EVERYTHING!

LSDivas PRESENTS DONYALE LUNA! THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO APPEAR ON A VOGUE MAGAZINE COVER!

Screenshot_2016-02-02-13-45-50-1.jpg
Donyale Luna was an American model and actress born in Detroit Michigan in 1945. In 1966, Luna became the first black woman to cover any Vogue Magazine when she was featured on the March edition of British Vogue. But in 1965, a sketch of the 6’2″ beauty covered Harper’s Bazaar.

In April of 1966 Time Magazine ran a story on Donyale Luna, describing her as “a new heavenly body…” Luna continued with a very successful modeling career and went on to star in films by Andy Warhol and Federico Fellini.

Unfortunately, Luna’s career and life were cut short when she died of a heroine overdose in 1979. But she will live on in the many fashion editorials, covers and images that saw her as the first black woman to cover a major fashion magazine.

ZOË KRAVITZ AND MOM, LISA BONET, STAR IN LATEST CALVIN KLEIN AD CAMPAIGN

Screen-Shot-2016-01-13-at-1.12.52-PM-358x360
Black never looked more beautiful than when we caught Zoë Kravitz and her actress mom, Lisa Bonet, in Calvin Klein’s latest campaign. The duo appear seaside in complementary sheer and knit cover-ups from Klein’s latest collection.

But are we the only ones who feel the two look more like sisters than mother and daughter? Yeah, yeah, yeah; we know the old saying, “black don’t crack” but Lisa is absolutely stunning and looks almost exactly the same as she did three decades ago. Zoë clearly hit the DNA jackpot with Bonet as her mother. Of course, having Lenny Kravitz as a father certainly doesn’t hurt.

E! CONFIRMS MARGARET CHO AS PERMANENT FASHION POLICE HOST

fashon-police-margaret-cho
Soooooo, E! is just going to keep hoping and praying against all odds that Fashion Police is going to hang in there and get back to the ratings it once had with Joan Rivers. The network just confirmed that comedienne, Margaret Cho, will stay on in a permanent co-host role.

Also staying put are Melissa Rivers, Giuliani Rancic and Brad Goreski. But will the addition of Cho do any good? The once highly rated show has been off and on hiatus and reduced to special episodes built around awards shows. Perhaps it’s time to recast the whole thing… or just let it die altogether.

The once weekly show that featured Joan Rivers saw her replacement, Kathy Griffin, leave followed quickly by Kelly Osborne. The one bright spot was when NeNe Leakes was brought in as a special guest host. But NeNe is back on Broadway and working the life out of her clothing line.

Let’s see if Fashion Police can hold on through 2016. We’re not that optimistic, though… No offense Margaret.

HAS KYLIE’S LATEST MAGAZINE SPREAD GONE TOO FAR?

1449026161875
Say what you want about the youngest member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan, but Kylie sure knows how to grab the headlines. The reality star’s latest spread in Interview magazine has many up in arms about the sexed up images. But it’s the image of a glamorous Kylie reclining in a wheelchair that has social media up in arms.

Many on Twitter have called the images out for being insensitive to people with disabilities. Others question the “artistic value” of a gold painted wheelchair. But didn’t Lady Gaga look just as fabulous in that video where she too was beat and styled within an inch of her life in a wheelchair? Call us crazy, but if we ever have the misfortune of being in a chair, a la Baby Jane’s sister, we’d like full hair, makeup and stylist treatment, dahling!

FANTASIA STUNS IN RED GOWN AND PROCEEDS TO SING THE FACES OFF THE CROWD AT SOUL TRAIN AWARDS

gettyimages-498135288
Fantasia Barrino proved once again that she is the go to artist for tributes when she brought down the house at this year’s Soul Train Awards. In a tribute to legendary R&B producer, Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, Fantasia delivered a performance of Superwoman that rivaled her Lady Marmalade tribute to Patti LaBelle a few years back.

It was one of the many bright spots of the evening and Barrino definitely looked the best she’s ever looked in an elegant red gown with bare shoulders. The American Idol winner proved she is one of the premiere voices of this R&B generation. And she will definitely sang your face off!
