MAN CRUSH MONDAY GOES TO DANIEL GALVIN, JR.

image

Celebrity hair stylist, Daniel Galvin, Jr., whose father coiffed Princess Diana’s head, used his boxing skills to fight off a mugger this weekend. Blessed with more than just killer good looks, Galvin, who was savagely attacked outside his London Salon, fought off the would be mugger.

After being jumped and bitten multiple times by his attacker, Daniel’s boxing pedigree kicked in and he was able to subdue the perpetrator until authorities arrived. Galvin couldn’t believe the aggressiveness in which he was attacked and showed off several bite marks. But dare we say if we came across this hottie in a dark alley we might want to take a bite too.

LSDivas PRESENTS TRACEY ‘AFRICA’ NORMAN FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

image

Long before Caitlyn Jenner shocked the world when she transitioned from male, Olympic superstar; and before Laverne Cox began giving groundbreaking performances on Orange Is The New Black, Tracey ‘Africa’ Norman was the first Transgender model to be featured in major magazines and score lucrative product endorsements.

In the 1970s, Newark, New Jersey native, Tracey Norman quietly began transitioning after high school. As part of her “training” on becoming more feminine, Norman would pose as a fashion student and sneak into modelling casting calls to watch black models walk and copy their mannerisms. One day, she followed a group of black models into a building in what turned out to be a casting call for Italian Vogue.

Photographer, Irving Penn was ecstatic that he had just discovered the next Beverly Johnson. Tracey ended up working in Italy and Europe for years and even scored major product endorsement deals with Clairol and Ultra Sheen makeup. It wasn’t until many years later that the industry ‘caught on’ and her modelling career abruptly ended. But still stunning in her 60s, Tracey Norman paved the way for Trans women working in film, television and fashion today… Even if they never knew it!

CONGRATULATIONS, ASHLEY GRAHAM FOR REPPIN’ REAL WOMEN ON YOUR SPORTS ILLUSTRATED COVER!

image

Finally! We have a Diva on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s popular swimsuit edition who represents the beauty of real women all across the globe. While many say she is the first full figured model to grace the cover, we like to think of her as the first to fully represent what the majority of women’s bodies look like.

Graham has been a force on the fashion scene for some time now. She has modeled everything from skinny jeans to lingerie. But it is her confidence in knowing that regardless of what society tells women they should look like, she is happy, beautiful and healthy just the way she is.

Congratulations, Ashley. And thank you, Sports Illustrated for giving all women a cover model they can look up to!

LSDivas PRESENTS JOSEPHINE BAKER FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

Screenshot_2016-02-04-23-30-16-1
Josephine Baker, the famous cabaret dancer of the 1920s, should be remembered for more than just that scantily clad banana costume. She was, at one point, the highest paid vaudeville dancer on Broadway.

Baker’s career took off in America when she began performing in blackface. Though popular at the time, Josephine’s mother did not approve of her daughter’s performances. However, Josephine quickly landed an opportunity to tour the stages of Paris and Europe which is where she would become a star.

During her years in Paris, Baker became a muse to such luminaries as Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso and Christian Dior, among others. In 1934 she became the first black woman to star in a major motion picture, ‘Zouzou’.

In 1937 Josephine Baker became a French Citizen and later joined the French resistance during World War II. Her assistance was such that after the War she was awarded the Croix de guerre and the Rosette de la R├ęsistance. She was ultimately made a Chevalier of the L├ęgion d’honneur by General Charles de Gaulle.

LSDivas PRESENTS DONYALE LUNA! THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO APPEAR ON A VOGUE MAGAZINE COVER!

Screenshot_2016-02-02-13-45-50-1.jpg
Donyale Luna was an American model and actress born in Detroit Michigan in 1945. In 1966, Luna became the first black woman to cover any Vogue Magazine when she was featured on the March edition of British Vogue. But in 1965, a sketch of the 6’2″ beauty covered Harper’s Bazaar.

In April of 1966 Time Magazine ran a story on Donyale Luna, describing her as “a new heavenly body…” Luna continued with a very successful modeling career and went on to star in films by Andy Warhol and Federico Fellini.

Unfortunately, Luna’s career and life were cut short when she died of a heroine overdose in 1979. But she will live on in the many fashion editorials, covers and images that saw her as the first black woman to cover a major fashion magazine.

IT’S BECOMING MORE DIFFICULT TO FEEL SORRY FOR MISS COLOMBIA

1450905852287.jpg

It’s been three days since Steve Harvey made one of the biggest gaffes of 2015 by crowning the wrong Miss Universe. Instantly, the pain Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, must have felt was transferred to millions of viewers watching, as she was literally dethroned after a 2 minute “reign.”
But the strange thing about the whole scenario is that Ariadna actually believes that she deserves some sort of compensation for the mistake. By retweeting and posting a comment, by of all people, Donald Trump, suggesting she and Miss Philippines should both share the title, Ariadna has shown little, if any, of the grace, poise and refinement a Miss Universe should possess.

With social media being quick as lightening these days, it’s no surprise images of her being crowned were posted almost immediately. But days later the posts are still there with bizarre hashtags like #backtoback. That, of course, being in reference to Miss Colombia 2014 also being crowned Miss Universe. But let it go already. Miss Colombia, you didn’t win, nor deserve the crown. The votes were clearly for Miss Philippines. A beautiful woman, Gutierrez could turn this into a PR positive. Instead, you have to wonder if anyone would want to work with a bitter, beauty queen clutching on to her 2 minutes of undeserved fame.

‘WEN’ AM I GONNA GET MY EDGES BACK?

1450222773681
That’s the question more than 200 women are asking Chaz Dean and Guthy-Renker. A class action lawsuit by the women claims that Wen, the sulfate-free alternative to shampoos and conditioners, left them with reduced hairlines, bald spots and lost edges.

Wen, Dean and Guthy-Renker have all released statements refuting the claims and are vigorously defending the brand. But that’s little solace for some women, one of whom claims she is so embarrassed by her hair loss she won’t leave the house.

Rumor has it the suit is now headed to mediation with a proposed settlement. But a settlement may or may not lead to the root cause of the problem. That said, if Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Kenya Moore can get something other than water in her haircare bottles, this could be a golden opportunity for her!

THE MARKETING GENIUS OF KYLIE JENNER… AND HER LIPS!

1449175312259
Kylie Jenner proved she’s more than just a lip-plumped, selfie-obsessed, reality/social media star when she launched her Lip Kit by Kylie on Cyber Monday. The site seemed to crash within 30 seeds and showed all three colors of her kit as sold out. Kylie went on Twitter and apologized saying that wasn’t the case and there were more available. But it looks like the kits did sell out… and at warp speed!

Ever since Kylie launched her new lip size earlier this year, she’s been both criticized and admired for her looks. Seemingly overnight, the youngest Kardashian has racked up 43 million Instagram Followers and it seems like almost all of them wanted that damn kit! Call it clever promotion but you have to give Kylie props. The girl is a marketing genius!

HAS KYLIE’S LATEST MAGAZINE SPREAD GONE TOO FAR?

1449026161875
Say what you want about the youngest member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan, but Kylie sure knows how to grab the headlines. The reality star’s latest spread in Interview magazine has many up in arms about the sexed up images. But it’s the image of a glamorous Kylie reclining in a wheelchair that has social media up in arms.

Many on Twitter have called the images out for being insensitive to people with disabilities. Others question the “artistic value” of a gold painted wheelchair. But didn’t Lady Gaga look just as fabulous in that video where she too was beat and styled within an inch of her life in a wheelchair? Call us crazy, but if we ever have the misfortune of being in a chair, a la Baby Jane’s sister, we’d like full hair, makeup and stylist treatment, dahling!
